glorified assistance
My boss just gave me his credit card. Party!
Actually it is to buy flowers for a retiring colleague with a Japanese tour operator.
::Nice! I wish I got flowers. If anyone out there is looking to buy me flowers, there is a bouquet of tulips in a stainless steel pail that looks really cute. Urbanflorist.com. Highly impractical but that's okay... since when are flowers supposed to be practical?::

another reason to dislike rentals:
yeah, they give you the basic stuff, but the things you take for granted are the things you miss in your old car - heated seats and blue lights notwithstanding... what about POWER WINDOWS and knowing EXACTLY which side the gas tank is on.
I had a sneezing fit today. Worse than normal. Must be from being worn down... all the stress. The stress? What stress? All internalized, thanks.

Can Teresa drink coffee??
For those of you who don't know (or don't care)... I have had to take myself off coffee for a while. This was due to getting sick after drinking it. Like, pain in the stomach and doubling-over sick. But the smell, the aroma, has always been tempting. I have had to take up drinking tea and hot chocolate only for the last six months.
But then, one day a couple weeks ago, I had a cup of coffee that was half coffee and milk... and nothing happened! So I tried, this time with a full cup of coffee, and still nothing happened!
So... I am letting myself have coffee once in a while... and will more likely stick to regular coffee, not espresso. I did find that most of the time when I got sick, I could correlate it with drinking Starbuck's coffee at the airport... but then any espresso drink did it after that. So we'll see. These health things are always tricky.

why my jetta is better than my rental
well, first of all it's a Volkswagen vs. Honda...
:: Jetta: one key to open, activate/de-activate remote locks and trunk. No fiddling around with a key and separate key chain lock button thingee.
:: Even though the jetta makes a semi-embarrassing farting noise when it locks, at least it's not as much of an announcement by a Honda lock alert.
:: Jetta: faster accelerator. This Honda can be zippy if it wants to be, but it takes a while to get there...
:: Seat heaters and other options. They gave me the basic basic Honda.
:: Pre-set radio stations... and my CD player, vs. a system I am not familiar with. And single CD player? I don't think so.
:: Better shock absorbtion... in the Civic, I drive over a twig and I freakin' feel it. Not necessary.
:: BLUE LIGHTS... nothing tops the blue lights.
It makes you appreciate what you don't have, when you don't have it. The only thing the Honda has on my Jetta right now is the new car smell.

Sunshine and Good Deeds...
... from Scott's mum - I sent her Marks & Spencer wine gums from the UK via my new source, Junko... below is the thank-you letter... hee hee! (How she knows about my love life is beyond me... Scott?)

Subject: thank you
Hi Teresa:
Thanks so very much for my yearly fix, and thank your connection. Are you enjoying your job and what area does the bus company service? I've never heard of them. Jenn & Andrew enjoyed seeing you for your birthday and loved the pictures you gave them. They are really enjoying having their own place.
How's your love life? Are you still seeing the guy you were with on your birthday? Are you moving soon? Jenn said you were thinking of moving into the bldg. next door to hers.
Well, gotta go & take Weezie out. Thanks again Teresa & keep up the good deeds (hee hee).
Love Mom C:)

A Wild and Crazy 24 Hours... A Whistler Recap
March 15/16, 2003:
noon-ish... left home, met up at Courtney's, with the regular pre-departure freak-outs (e.g. Tanya absolutely needing the bag she left in my trunk while she was in Courtney's car).
one-thirty-ish... realized we were out-blonded in Squamish - 4 to 3. That almost never happens! If Michelle were there it'd be 5 to 3.
three-ish... checked in at Mountainside lodge; only to find one room ready. Drinking starts.
four-thirty-ish... met up with Tony and friend Dan, rating commences upon the patio at Citta. A guy strips for our attention. Drinking continues.
seven-ish... we'd been on the patio that long? Dinner time... Crab Shack.
nine-ish... checked out the line at Buffalo Bill's - Courtney, Tanya, Opal already ready.
ten-ish... got in line at Buffalo Bill's (Fri, Lena, Sandi, me). Thank heaven for excess alcohol.
eleven-ish... got in Buffalo Bill's (since when do we do line-ups??). Courtney leaves with Hot Guy.
twelve-ish... Opal gets dude in white shirt kicked out of the bar for throwing a lime at her.
twelve-thirty-ish... Sandi makes fun of man in ugly ski shirt. Then they become friends.
1-ish... six-girl ring of tequila body shots.
1:30-ish... Lena is really drunk.
2-ish... guy starts talking to me and Lena steals his hat and throws it at him.
2:30-ish... finally leave Buffalo Bill's after closing... hang out with RCMP officers for another half hour.
3-ish... hit the hot tubs, incognito. well, not really "incognito"... everyone's eyes are burned from the chlorine tablets in the hot tub; decide on the pool instead. (incriminating photos not on this site).
4-ish... Lena passes out while the others eat chips in the stairwell.
5-ish... sleep... finally.
9:30-ish... call Front Desk to ask for a later check-in than 10. They gave us 11. I forgot about room 205. Oops.
11:30-ish... checked out. Breakfast at La Bocca.
one-ish... leave Whistler.
two-ish... back in Squamish. Everyone still hung over and maybe a little sick. Frosties and water do the trick.
three-ish... back at home. NAP.

add it to the list of pet peeves
envelopes you can see the cards through. i don't think envelopes were meant to be seen through. it defeats the purpose, don't you think? for bills and regular mail they are ok... but for cards and stuff... unless it is a vellum envelope i don't want to see through the paper!
i, miss crafty, discovered this new pet peeve when i bought birthday cards yesterday. perhaps this is why i have turned to making cards of my own accord and purchasing non-see-through envelopes (unless i am using vellum).
and yes, i am on a non-capitalizing mood today.

Pre-Whistler Party
OH MY GOD. Six girls should not be allowed to have this much fun. Friday night we all met up and went to Kobe for dinner, something we'd had in mind ever since Fri got back. Everyone plus Courtney was there. Good food, good drinks. We were supposed to go 'out' (i.e. to a club) afterwards but ended up driving all over downtown Vancouver yelling at guys to come join us at whatever club we weren't going to. Oh yes, and Tanya reprised her roll as Chick Who Regularly Hangs Out the Side of Cars. "Where are all the hot guys?" Michelle demanded. They are all driving around! Or walking! Now Michelle thinks that is something that we must do next time we go out. Umm. Yeah, maybe when she gets a car. Ha ha!
Anyway, Fri probably has pictures of the car chasing... I only have pictures of the restaurant. Follow the links to see...

Oh, the irony
Yesterday I quoted a woman on a bus charter... She was calling from St. Francis of Assisi in Vancouver, and her group was going to the Westminster Abbey in Mission for a day trip. Anyway, when I worked out the hours she was going to need, the price came to... get this... $666...

More and more...
...photos online, and more adding as we speak! Well, not really. There are sure to be more (selective ones, of course) added after this coming weekend in Whistler... should be a good time. Anyway, I am trying to keep up but it's hard to find a free computer with a fast connection. I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied with my dial-up connection. That's what brothers with Shaw are for, right? Yeah baby!
Fri's off to Victoria this week, we should be hearing back from ICBC on 'fault' soon. Can't believe I have to drive my disgraced car up to Whistler...
Hmm, what else is new. Work doing fine. Must work on the confrontational side more. Bleh.

HTML is ANNOYING
because I can't figure out how to get my 'archives' links to work. $50 to the first person who can figure it out for me. Damn Blogger.
At any rate, terra1ncognita seems to be up and running... nothing too exciting just but at least there are photos for all you who need visual stimulation.
In other news... Fri is off to Victoria this week so I am without a chauffeur... which is just as well because if you're going to have a chauffeur, it would best be in a car without the $1000 dent in it. That's right... got it looked at by ICBC today, that was their estimate. The girl who hit us hasn't contacted ICBC yet, so I may still have to pay my deductible when I get my car fixed... which probably won't be until next week anyway.
I bought a lottery ticket this week. I have no idea why. Junko and I went to Hon's for dinner, and we got these fortune cookies with numbers on the back of the fortune. Mine said something about being a great communicator, and had a bunch of numbers on the back. Junko's said something about being spontaneous, and had another set of numbers. While this is common, we'd never bought tickets on account of these fortune cookies... first time for everything I guess? So I guess we'll have to see at 6:49 on Wednesday...
Thus details another semi-interesting day in the life of... well, me...

Enough mucking about with the template...
Okay... so, in an effort to align my new pages in one theme, I have changed my blog template to match my NEW HOMEPAGE template... this took me two hours to figure out, even with Front Page. I do have to say that although I am not an expert, I think I am pretty crafty!!
So, my new home page is Terra 1ncognita... you will be able to see pictures and other random postings there. But most importantly, the pictures... which I will be adding soon... really. For sure.
In other news, Fri and I got into a car accident on Friday. We are okay, but I am upset at the damage to my car. Not huge, but damn annoying... and messed up because it has been almost exactly a year (one year, three days) since my last accident when I was rear-ended last year. Arrggghhh!!! So annoying. Have to wait and see where ICBC places the blame, but the chick who hit us (Fri was driving), was turning left... with oncoming traffic... where you really aren't supposed to be turning left in rush hour traffic... Grr.

Pictures site up!!
Hats off to Fri, who pointed me to this site hosting place. Pictures and links should be up shortly. If you want to have a look at it, it kind of sucks, but will hopefully get better:
Terra Incognita Pictures
I've also added a link to the side bar.
In other news, Fri has been in Canada for a week now, and seems to be enjoying it! I like having Fri as my personal chauffeur, since she has been using my car. So much stuff to do!! I don't think I have been home less all week. At any rate, she's off to Victoria next week so that means I get my car back for my own use, but get to miss out on the Victoria action, which was thought to be the weekend after next (March 22-ish)... ah well.

Fri's back!!!
Yup, it's true!!! And I'm sure you'll get her comments presently. Ahh, great to have her back. Already Tanya and Michelle hinting that she ought to stay, at least more than the one month she intends. Honestly I agree because it's so much fun to have her around, but whatever Fri wants to do, is what she wants to do, right? Right!
Fun and exciting last couple of days, though - FRI-day she arrived and we had a GNI at my house, where I might have broken Tanya's toe by dropping a bottle of salsa on it... here's hoping she doesn't lose the nail otherwise she might sue me and then I'd be in serious trouble. Rien de gateau. Saturday - what did we do? Oh right, walked around the Seawall with Michelle and Gwen.
Today we went to the 2010 rally. Good times.
